Tips in Installing Exhaust Fans

Tips in Installing Exhaust Fans

Exhaust System

An exhaust fan is a device designed to suck out humid air from a house or building. It can be installed for the whole structure or particular areas only, say a bathroom or kitchen.

Installing exhaust fans can be do-it-yourself. It is that easy. What is important to consider is the safety of the one installing. Taken into consideration also is the safety of the occupants of the area wherein this device is installed. Faulty installations can cause electrical problems and other similar accidents.

Manufacturers usually include manuals along with their products. Read and understand these installations guides very carefully first. There is no room for mistakes because they can lead to house damages.

Turn off power in the area first before installing as safety precautions. If the fan to be installed is a replacement, the job would be easier. Position carefully the fan on the required area for access to the power source. Make the necessary opening instructed in the manual.

Make sure the exhaust fan is properly attached. All screws and fasteners should be in place. Next, connect the fan unit to the power source. There is a wiring diagram provided with the product. Grills and fixtures are attached properly with the unit fasteners.

Finish doing all the necessary connections before turning on the power. The vent for the exhaust fan should be properly in place. The ductwork and cap should be in their correct positions and connections.

For added security, make sure that all persons in the house know that there is someone working to install the device. This will prevent accidental turning on of the circuit breaker supplying power to area where the work is being done. The installer should wear proper work clothes for protection. Face mask and helmet should be used to avoid accidental injuries from dust and falling debris.

In some areas, local authorities require permits for such installations. Make sure to comply and acquire these documents.
